“The Peaceful River” – a lovely suggestion for your next kids’ yoga class.
“Once upon a time, in a quiet valley surrounded by towering mountains, a gentle river flowed. The river had traveled for many years, winding through forests and meadows, always moving forward. But one day, it began to wonder — where did its journey truly lead? To find the answer, the river decided to listen to the wisdom of nature along its path.
At the river’s source, high in the mountains, the water gathered in a calm, clear lake. The great mountains stood tall and steady around it, whispering, “To flow with purpose, you must first be strong and still”. – Tadasana
As the river began to flow, it curved and twisted around rocks and trees. It leaned forward, bowing gently to the earth as it moved along its winding path. – Uttanasana
The river was home to many creatures, including playful fish that leapt above the surface. They stretched their bodies, lifting their heads to greet the sun before diving back into the water. – Bhujangasana
Along the riverbank, tall reeds swayed in the wind. “Stand firm, yet move with the breeze”, they whispered. “Balance is the key to harmony”. – Vrksasana
As the river grew stronger, it tumbled over small waterfalls, stretching downward and then rising again, always flowing forward with steady energy. – Adho Mukha Svanasana
Finally, after its long journey, the river reached the vast ocean. It realized that it had never been lost — every twist, turn and ripple had led it exactly where it was meant to be. “I was always a part of something greater”, it whispered. The river became still, merging with the peaceful sea. – Padmasana
As the sun set over the water, the river rested, letting go of all movement. It had found its answer — sometimes, the journey itself is the destination. – Savasana”
You can close the session by reminding the children that, like the river, we are always flowing and learning, and by listening to nature, we can find balance, strength and peace.
