“The Little Turtle’s Big Journey” – a lovely story for your next kids’ yoga class.
“In the warm sand beside a calm blue ocean lived a small turtle named Tula. While most turtles were happy staying close to their shells, Tula often dreamed of seeing the world. She didn’t want to be the fastest or the bravest, she just wanted to take one step at a time and see what lay beyond the waves.
One morning, Tula whispered: “It’s time.” And with that, she began her journey — steady, patient and full of quiet courage.
Before she set off, Tula curled up inside her shell one last time. She felt safe and still, but also ready to grow beyond what she already knew. – Balasana
Tula peeked out and stretched forward, pressing her flippers into the earth and lifting her body with slow, steady strength. – Phalakasana
As she moved through the sand, she glided forward with her chest lifted and her heart open. The world was new and wide, and she was ready for it. – Bhujangasana
Tula came upon a patch of sharp stones and paused. She pulled in gently, lowering her body and folding her limbs beneath her shell, breathing through the challenge. “Slow is still strong,” she reminded herself. – Kurmasana (or variation)
After the rough ground, Tula took a moment to breathe and move. She rounded and lifted her back slowly, flowing gently like the ocean she had left behind. – Marjaryasana–Bitilasana
Feeling energy return, Tula stretched one leg forward and the other back. She leaned into her journey, one foot — or flipper — at a time. – Anjaneyasana
Eventually, Tula found a quiet clearing under the stars. She lay down and let her body rest. Her journey wasn’t finished, but she had discovered something important; strength doesn’t come from rushing, it comes from moving forward, even slowly, with heart. – Savasana”
You can close the session by inviting children to reflect: Can you be like Tula today — steady, gentle and strong in your own time?
“Because sometimes, the slowest path leads us the furthest.“
