The Rainbow in the Mountain

“The Rainbow in the Mountain” – a lovely story for your next kids’ yoga class.

“High above the valley stood a silent mountain. Hidden inside was a cave that once glowed with the colours of the rainbow — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet — each shining from a magical crystal. But now, the colours were gone.

One day, a child named Luma followed a soft humming into the mountain. Inside the cave, she saw only grey walls. “Maybe the colours are sleeping,” she whispered. “Maybe I can wake them, one by one.”

  • Luma stood tall with her feet firm on the cave floor. She imagined roots growing from her soles into the earth. “I feel safe. I belong.” – Tadasana
  • She sat down and gently fluttered her knees like butterfly wings. She smiled, imagining warm orange light swirling in her belly. “I can feel. I can move with joy.” – Baddha Konasana
  • Luma stood strong, one foot forward, arms stretched out. She looked ahead with steady focus, fire in her centre. “I am powerful.” – Virabhadrasana II
  • Luma lay down and lifted her chest, opening her heart to the space around her. She felt kindness rising like breath. “I love.” – Bhujangasana
  • She knelt, stuck out her tongue, and let out a bold roar — HA! Her voice echoed in the cave, full of truth. “I speak.” – Simhasana (Lion’s Breath)
  • Luma rested her forehead on the ground and breathed slowly. She saw gentle purple light behind her eyes. “I see.” – Balasana
  • She sat tall with her hands resting softly on her knees. She imagined a gentle light above her head, connecting her to everything. “I am.” – Sukhasana

The cave glowed with colour once more. Luma sat in the centre of the rainbow light, peaceful and bright. The mountain was quiet again, but not grey. Never grey.”

You can close the session with: “Just like Luma, you carry the colours within you. Every time you move, breathe or rest with kindness, you help them shine.”
