“The Mighty Elephant” – a lovely yoga story for your next kids’ yoga class.
“Deep in the heart of the jungle, where the trees stretched high into the sky and the rivers ran clear and strong, lived a great elephant named Anu. Anu was known for her wisdom, strength and gentle heart. One day, she set off on a journey to find the legendary “Forest of Stillness,” a hidden place where all creatures lived in perfect harmony.
Anu stood tall at the edge of the jungle, feeling the earth firm beneath her great feet. She lifted her trunk high to take in the fresh air. “To begin my journey, I must stand strong and steady”, she thought. – Tadasana
As Anu walked, she reached a river. She bent forward, dipping her trunk into the cool water for a drink. – Uttanasana
Feeling refreshed, Anu stretched her legs wide and swayed her trunk side to side, enjoying the movement. – Prasarita Padottanasana, swinging side to side
Deeper in the jungle, Anu noticed the tall trees standing strong yet swaying with the wind. She lifted one foot, placing it against her leg, steadying herself like the great trees around her. – Vrksasana
Reaching the heart of the jungle, Anu lifted her trunk and let out a deep, echoing call. She bent her knees into a squat, swayed her trunk-like arms and let out a joyful sound. “This is my strength, my voice, my power”, she declared. – Malasana, with arm swing
At last, Anu arrived at the “Forest of Stillness”. The air was calm, the leaves barely moved, and peace surrounded her. She folded her legs beneath her and closed her eyes. – Padmasana
As the sun set, Anu lay down beneath the trees, letting her body relax. “I have found my answer”, she thought. “True power is not only in strength but in knowing when to be still”. – Savasana”
You can close the session by reminding the children that, like Anu, we can find strength in movement but also in stillness, and true wisdom comes from listening to both.
