“The Forgotten Keys” – a lovely yoga story for your next kids’ yoga class.
“Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Maya. She lived in a small village and the elders of her village spoke of a secret garden hidden deep in the forest, said to hold the keys to wisdom and inner peace. No one had seen it in many years, but Maya, curious and brave, decided to find it.
Maya stood tall at the forest’s edge, feeling the ground firmly beneath her feet. Taking a deep breath, she felt strong and steady like a mountain. “I’m ready for the adventure,” she said. – Tadasana
Maya followed a winding path and Maya stopped to watch the trees as they swayed but stood rooted and strong. Balancing on one foot, she raised her arms like branches reaching for the sky. “I’ll be as steady as the trees,” she thought. – Vrksasana
Soon, Maya came to a clear, sparkling river. She knelt down and stretched her hands and feet to the ground, lifting her hips like an arching bridge. “I must find a way across,” she murmured. – Adho Mukha Svanasana
Maya noticed a frog hopping from stone to stone across the river. She crouched low, ready to jump just like the frog, making her way across safely. – Malasana
On the other side of the river, Maya found a large rock covered with vines. Behind it, she found a hidden door. Bending low like a snake, she searched the ground for a way to unlock it. – Bhujangasana
Behind the door lay the secret garden, glowing with beautiful flowers. At its centre bloomed a magnificent lotus, as if it held all the answers in the world. Maya sat down cross-legged, resting her hands on her knees, and closed her eyes. – Sukhasana or Padmasana
After spending time in the garden, Maya lay down on the soft grass, closed her eyes and let her body rest. She realised the keys to wisdom and peace had always been inside her. – Savasana”
You can close the session by reminding the children, just like Maya, that strength, calm and wisdom are always within us when we listen to our breath and our hearts.
